Man Cleared of Murder After Tortured Confession Landed Him 29 Years in Jail
After serving 29 years behind bars, Desmond Weston has been released from prison after charges against him were dropped. Weston was wrongfully convicted for murder after, he alleges, Chicago police detectives tortured him during a 12-hour interrogation and coerced him to give a false confession in the 1990 murder of a 19-year-old man. He was only 17 years old when he was arrested. “Right now, I think at this point, I can just be someone else’s hope,” Weston said of his newly-found freedom.
