Over 1,300 Sex Abuse Lawsuits Filed in New York Following New Law

| Grant & Eisenhofer P.A. Civil Rights | Blog & News

Following the implementation of the Child Victims Act in August 2019, over 1,300 sex abuse lawsuits have been filed in the state of New York. The Act essentially extends the statute of limitations for child sex abuse claims for New Yorkers, providing people up to age 55 the ability to file a civil lawsuit against their perpetrator. It also provides a one-year timeframe for people to file their claim that were previously barred by the old statute, regardless of when the abuse occurred. Many of the lawsuits filed last year were brought under this new statute, and most involved allegations against the Boy Scouts of America or the Catholic Church.

Grant & Eisenhofer’s civil rights attorneys can help you determine if you have legal options to file a sexual harassment or sexual assault lawsuit.
