$100 Million Gender Discrimination Settlement For Riot Games Employees

Video game maker Riot Games has agreed to a $100 million settlement to resolve discrimination claims. Plaintiffs, comprised of more than 2,000 current and former employees, claimed that Riot Games engaged in gender discrimination. The lawsuit was filed in 2018, and originally sought $10 million in damages, but two California agencies blocked the settlement and argued that the plaintiffs should be granted more. The settlement still needs to be approved by Los Angeles Superior Court, but it highlights that “[a]ll industries in California, including the gaming industry, must provide equal pay and workplaces free from discrimination and harassment,” said Kevin Kish, director of the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing.
