Six State Senators Urge EEOC to Investigate Pregnancy Discrimination at Amazon

| Grant & Eisenhofer P.A. Civil Rights | Blog & News

Senators from six states are urging the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”) to investigate potential discrimination practices against pregnant Amazon warehouse employees. The senators sent a letter to the EEOC citing the e-commerce giant’s “systemic failure to provide adequate accommodations” for pregnant women working in Amazon warehouses. Their claims include failure to modify tasks for pregnant employees to reduce strain and disallowing time off from work (without repercussion) for medical needs such as prenatal doctor appointments. According to the lawmakers, these failures may be in violation of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
