Spreading The Word About Sexual Assault Awareness Month

| Grant & Eisenhofer P.A. Civil Rights | Blog & News

As we enter into the last week of April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we stand in solidarity with, and as allies of, all survivors of any form of sexual violence, including sexual harassment and assault. We recognize the courage it takes to come forward with your story, which often is extremely hard to share. You may even may find yourself thinking, “Is what happened to me actually considered sexual assault? How do I know?”

Sexual assault is any sexual act that occurred without consent. This includes, but is not limited to, conduct such as unwanted sexual advances or touching, sexual contact with minors, and rape. Sexual assault can occur anywhere and to anyone. It has been recognized that those who are at the highest risk of sexual assault include teen and college-aged people. Moreover, incidents of sexual assault are also seven times greater among persons with disabilities.

Survivors of sexual assault may feel alone, ashamed, guilty, or scared about what happened to them. We encourage all survivors of sexual violence to come forward and share their stories.  Whether that be with a trusted confidant, parent, or other support network.  There are many people who support you, believe you, and are here to help you.  Your voice is strong, and deserves to be heard!

To all survivors – G&E believes you, supports you, and stands with you, not only this Sexual Assault Awareness Month, but every single day.
